Contemporary Band Sampler
(Hardanger and other counted thread stitches)
The focus will be on the stitches and the textures they create as well as using positive and negative space. Each student will receive a kit with their base colors. The instructor will guide them in selection of additional threads and embellishments to make this piece truly unique. All threads and embellishments are provided, but students are permitted to bring selections of their own from their stash.
Students will learn 24 different stitches as they work this band sampler that can be either framed, or finished as a bell-pull. Students will have a choice of white/silver, ecru/gold or turquoise/lavender for this piece. Color and fabric selection should be made at time of registration.
Experimentation with various threads and colors is highly encouraged. There are three stitched examples provided, and suggestions are made as to sizes and types of thread that could be used. Tips are given to improve color sense and perfect stitching ability.
Level: intermediate to advanced
Pre-homework: Basting and two stitched doodles.
